Our Story
From a grassroots acoustic concert on Palm Drive to an award-winning eco-festival — the journey of Earth Hour Jamaica.
The Timeline
The Beginning
Jamaicansmusic.com launches Earth Hour Jamaica as a free acoustic concert on Palm Drive, Hope Botanical Gardens. A simple idea: celebrate Earth Hour with unplugged reggae under the stars.
Growing the Movement
Year after year, the event grows. Chronixx, Jesse Royal, and Warrior King grace the stage. The plastic-free mandate is established. Kingston takes notice.
The BYOC Campaign
The "Bring Yuh Owna Cup/Tings" (BYOC/BYOT) campaign launches, challenging festival culture and eliminating thousands of single-use items.
Esirom Foundation Takes the Helm
Earth Hour Jamaica transitions to the governance of the Esirom Foundation, formalizing its mission to combat climate vulnerability in Jamaica as a Small Island Developing State.
Energy Globe Award
Earth Hour Jamaica wins the prestigious Energy Globe Award for cultural programming — one of the world's most significant environmental prizes.
KHERI & Expansion
The Kingston Harbour Eco-Restoration Initiative (KHERI) launches. A pontoon system extracts over 7 tons of waste from the harbour. Partnerships with UBER and local eco-businesses deepen.
National Energy Globe Award for KHERI
KHERI wins the 2025 National Energy Globe Award, cementing the Esirom Foundation as a leader in environmental restoration in the Caribbean.
The Premium Eco-Festival
Earth Hour Jamaica evolves into a paid, ticketed festival — scaling impact, securing world-class acts, and delivering a premium eco-conscious experience.
