Our Story
From a grassroots acoustic concert at Emancipation Park to an award-winning eco-festival — the journey of Earth Hour Jamaica.
The Timeline
The Beginning
Earth Hour Ja was launched by Jamaicansmusic in 2013, with the first staging being held at Emancipation Park.
Growing the Movement
Year after year, the event continued to grow, featuring Jamaica's renowned artistes such as Chronixx, Jesse Royal, and Warrior King. The plastic-free mandate was also established.
The BYOC Campaign
In 2018, our BYOC Campaign was introduced at the concert. This initiative challenged festival culture and eliminated thousands of single-use items.
Virtual Celebration & Global Recognition
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Earth Hour was held virtually, with thousands of viewers logging on to the celebration. The event also won the prestigious Energy Globe Award for cultural programming — one of the world's most significant environmental prizes.
KHERI & Expansion
The event expanded, finding its new home at Palm Drive Hope Gardens. Earth Hour Ja also introduced the Kingston Harbour Eco-Restoration Initiative (KHERI). A pontoon system extracts over 7 tons of waste from the harbour.
Our Biggest Staging Yet
In 2025, Esirom Entertainment partnered with the Esirom Foundation and saw our biggest staging yet, with roughly 5,000 patrons in attendance. Esirom Foundation's special project KHERI also won the 2025 National Energy Globe Award, cementing them as a leader in environmental restoration in the Caribbean.
The Premium Eco-Festival
Earth Hour Jamaica evolves into a paid, ticketed festival — scaling impact, securing world-class acts, and delivering a premium eco-conscious experience.
